LROD is a Chicana from El Paso and the Tex-Mex borderlands who actively creates inclusive installations, surreal dance-works, and integrates emerging technology with care. Her movement research investigates lineages of Latinidad in dance, alter-egoism, and discovering communal environments of radical tenderness. Her films explore Latinidad in the context of borderland cultural production through the lens of surrealism, futurity, and inter-generational archives.

She brings thirty years of experience as a performer and movement practitioner and has over fifteen years of choreographic, teaching, and visual arts experience. In 2017 she received her B.F.A. from the Professional Dancers Program at Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle before migrating to Columbus. Laura is currently pursuing her M.F.A. in choreographic research from the Department of Dance, alongside a Graduate Interdisciplinary Studies Minor in Latina/o Studies at The Ohio State University. Laura is currently an awardee of the Migration, Mobility, and Immobility Project Graduate Grant (19) for the current production of two films on the Tex-Mex border, and The Graduate School’s Alumni Grants for Graduate Research and Scholarship (AGGRS) Program (19).

Recognized as a multi-disciplinary choreographer; Laura’s current mediums intersect dance, performance, visual art, mask making, costume design, lighting, and interactive technologies. She has produced work in Seattle for Base Experimental Arts + Space, Center for Contemporary Art (COCA), City Opera Ballet, Men in Dance, Boost Dance Festival, Converge Dance Festival, Men in Dance Choreographers Showcase, and New Moves. She has performed in works by Kyle Abraham, Sidra Bell, Deborah Wolf, Pat Graney, Wade Madsen, Spareworks.Dance, and Erison Dancers.

LROD was recently in Peñasco NM, Charlottesville NC, with Guillermo Gómez Peña and La Pocha Nostra and will join them in Taos NM this summer as a Pocha Team Member, Northwestern’s Summer Institute for Political Climates and Performance Ecologies, and Columbus OH headlining the Chingona Fire Caravan performance at Wild Goose Creative.
